Getting On The Air

To become eligible for a radio show, you must obtain a WVUD Operator's Certificate. The steps to follow are:

  1. Obtain the WVUD Technical Study Guide (which can be purchased for $5 in the Student Media office in the Perkins Student Center).

  2. Take the WVUD Technical Exam (which can be completed between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on the weekdays in the Student Media office).

  3. Schedule training sessions with the Training Director (Gary Irving, rootsdj@yahoo.com) or the Chief Engineer (Dave Mackenzie, davemack@udel.edu) to learn how to use our studio equipment.

  4. Schedule training sessions with the Chief Engineer (Dave Mackenzie, davemack@udel.edu) regarding transmitter operation and the Emergency Alerting System equipment usage.

  5. Practice in the studios to master the skills of radio.

  6. Create a demo tape that is representative of the type of radio program that you would like to do. Please contact the Program Director (Kelly Enfield, enfieldk@udel.edu) regarding what the demo tape should include.

  7. The tape will be reviewed and critiqued by the Program Director, and will contact you.

  8. Once the demo tape is approved, make sure you have obtained all of the necessary signatures on your WVUD Operator's Certificate.

  9. The Program Director will discuss your options regarding time slots on WVUD 91.3 FM, or WVUD2.
