GETTING STARTED AT WVUD
Becoming a DJ at WVUD requires completing a handful of steps. Although these steps
can seem intimidating or time consuming, rest assured that our staff is here to help!
WVUD is a Registered Student Organization first and foremost, which means that
students are given top priority for show availability and scheduling.  There are also
many opportunities for non-students to join our team as show hosts or show substitutes.
So come on down to the station to learn more.
WVUD is block formatted, which means that we play certain types of music at certain
times of the day. This effects how we place new show hosts into our on-air schedule.
It is also very important to know that WVUD is more than just radio shows.
There are many ways to get involved with the station in our off-air departments.
There have been plenty of WVUD members over the years that have never done an
on-air airshift. You could be one of those people as well!
WHAT ARE THE STEPS?
Now that you know a little bit about the station, lets go through the steps!
  • SHADOW A WVUD OR BASEMENT PROGRAM- To get you started, we ask that you sit in for an hour
or two with one of our DJs. This will make your training much easier when you begin....and it's FUN! To schedule a shadowing session, contact us at wvudtraining@gmail.com or ud.wvud@gmail.com

  • TRAINING SESSION #1- This is the long training session. We show you all of the aspects of our studio and of doing a show on one of our radio stations. The sessions last anywhere from one to two hours. You can break them up into multiple sessions if you need to. Fear not, you are NOT expected to remember EVERYTHING we teach you in this session, but you will find it useful later. Once you are through with training session #1, you move on to the next step. Contact us at wvudtraining@gmail.com or ud.wvud@gmail.com when you are ready for training. UD students may start on The Basement immediately after this training session, but are encouraged to do session 2 and the quiz within 7 days of initial training.

  • TRAINING SESSION #2- This is a very short session (about twenty minutes) that is done either in person or via two prerecorded videos that we have. We will show you how to keep an eye on our transmitter, fill out radio station logs, and some other 'procedural' items. Once you finish this step, you may FILL IN on the FM. To get your own show, you must do an audition CD (unless you have done shows on the Basement).

  • PASS THE WVUD QUIZ- After your second training session, you will be asked to complete a 10 question quiz. You may take it as many times as you need to (but you will probably ace it the first time). You can take the quiz right after the second training, or you can wait. We ask that you take it within 7 days of initial training. The quiz can be done in person or online via StUDent Central.

  • AUDITION CD- Before we unleash you on the WVUD-FM listening audience, we ask that you do a brief audition CD. The format of the CD is further down the page. This CD is then passed along to our Program Director. Once your demo CD is approved, he or she will attempt to find a spot on our FM schedule, or on our subtitute list. You do not need to do the audition CD for The Basement. Also, if you have done shows on The Basement, you do NOT need to do an audition CD to move to the FM.

That's it! Again, we are with you every step of the way! The next section includes some resources that are very useful for prospective station members. Please check these items out, and best wishes on your journey towards stardom on WVUD!
